2021
Deliverable
Figma UX and UI of the app, CMS, Widget Web, Mail, Branding, Slides, multiple content for social and conventions
Description
myMarina was my first freelance project, back in distant 2021. Working on this ecosystem helped me grow tremendously and shaped me as a designer for all subsequent projects.
myMarina is a widely used service today by various Italian marinas, allowing boaters to book a mooring spot or additional services.
Process
How it started
The client, now a dear friend of mine, approached me with the idea for this app. He already had developers on board but lacked a designer. Looking back, the project was quite ambitious for a single junior designer at the time, but it was a highly educational experience.
Setting up the projects and creating wireframes
Although the project encompassed various platforms for management and online booking, the entry point was the app. The biggest challenge was that the project evolved during our calls, with many aspects of the original requirements document frequently changing.
We worked intensively during the COVID-19 period, day and night, to align on ideas, test different options and configurations, and ultimately create fairly solid wireframes.
My first Design System
Although I had already worked on creating UI Kits for the company where I was employed, it was with myMarina that I first had the freedom to build a solid and well-defined design system.
This greatly streamlined communication with the developers, who found everything ready to implement, making the entire process much more efficient.
The delivery and other platforms
Once the app work was completed, almost a year later, we moved on to creating many additional components: the branding, the online widget to embed on marina websites, the CMS platform for marinas, and a full suite of advertising, mailing, and communication tools.
Working on this project was as exhausting as it was thrilling.
